Blinded by the light (album version)

Blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce,
Another runner in the night

Blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce,
Another runner in the night

Blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce,
Another runner...

Madman drummers, bummers
Indians in the summer with a
Teenage diplomat

In the dumps with the mumps
As the adolescent pumps
His way into his hat

With a boulder on my shoulder
Feelin kinda older,
I tripped the merry-go-round

With this very unpleasin'
Sneasin' and wheesin'
The calliopie crashed to the ground

The calliopie crashed to the ground

But she was
Blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce,
Another runner in the night

Blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce,
Another runner in the night

Blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce,
Another runner in the night

Blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce...

Some silicone sister
With a manager mister
Told me I got what it takes

She said "I'll turn you on sonny
To something strong,
Play the song with the funky break"

And go-kart Mozart
Was checkin' out the weather chart
Seein' if it was safe out side

And little early-pearly
Came by in his curly-wurly
And asked me if I needed a ride

Asked me if I needed a ride

But she was
Blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce,
Another runner in the night

Blinded by the light

She got down, but she never got tired
She's gonna make it through the night
She's gonna make it through the night

But mama
That's where the fun is

But mama
That's where the fun is

Mama always told me
Not to look into the
Eyes of the sun

But mama,
That's where the fun is

Some brimstone baritone
Anticyclone rolling stone
Preacher from the east

Says "dethrone the Dictaphone,
Hit it in it's funny bone
That's where they expect it least"

And some new-mown Chaperone
Was standing in the corner
Watching the young girls dance

And some fresh-sown moonstone
Was messin' with his frozen zone
Remindin' him of romance

The callalopie crashed to the ground

But she was
Blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce,
Another runner in the night

Blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce,
Another runner in the night

Madman, drummers bummers
(Blinded by the light)
Indians in the summer with a
Teenage diplomat
(Revved up like a deuce,
Another runner in the night)

In the dumps with the mumps
(Blinded by the light)
As the adolescent pumps
His way into his hat
(Revved up like a deuce,
Another runner in the night)

With a boulder on my shoulder
(Blinded by the light)
Feelin kinda older,
I tripped the merry-go-round
(Revved up like a deuce,
Another runner in the night)

With this very unpleasin'
(Blinded by the light)
Sneasin' and wheesin'
The calliopie crashed to the ground
(Revved up like a deuce,
Another runner in the night)

Now Scott with a slingshot
(Blinded by the light)
Finally found a tender spot
And throws his lover in the sand
(Revved up like a deuce,
Another runner in the night)

And some bloodshot forget-me-not
(Blinded by the light)
Said "daddy's within earshot,
Save the buckshot - turn up the band"
(Revved up like a deuce,
Another runner in the night)

Some silicone sister
(Blinded by the light)
With a manager mister
Told me I got what it takes
(Revved up like a deuce,
Another runner in the night)

She said "I'll turn you on sonny
(Blinded by the light)
To something strong"

She got down, but she never got tired
She's gonna make it through the night

Biografia

The history of the jazz/R&B combo founded by South African Jewish emigre Manfred Sepse Lubowitz in London in 1962 can be divided into three parts, not counting the prog-rock group that rose to fame in 1977 with a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Blinded by the Light," Manfred Mann's Earth Band. The first incarnation began life as the Mann-Hugg Blues Brothers, formed by Mike Hugg and Lubowitz, who had changed his surname first to Manne and then to Mann. Paul Jones was the lead vocalist of this outfit, which changed its name to Manfred Mann upon receiving a record contract in 1963. This was the lineup responsible for "5-4-3-2-1"--rather a larger hit in Britain than elsewhere due to its status as the theme tune for Ready Steady Go!--the Bob Dylan covers "With God on Our Side" and "If You Gotta Go, Go Now," and the timeless smash "Do Wah Diddy Diddy." Jack Bruce, later of Cream, joined the band right before Paul Jones's last hit with the group, "Pretty Flamingo." In 1966 Jones left to go solo and was replaced by Mike D'Abo (it is said that among those in the running for the job was one Rod Stewart) and Bruce's spot was filled by Beatles associate Klaus Voormann. This lineup's first single was another Dylan cover, "Just Like a Woman," and by far their best-known song was "Quinn the Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn)"--the first commercial recording of the song that had been recorded as part of Dylan's Basement Tapes in 1967. The last, short-lived chapter of the group involved a name change to Manfred Mann Chapter Three and a reduction of the band's core back to Mann and Hugg. Two years after Manfred Mann's final recorded effort, the awkwardly titled Manfred Mann Chapter Three Volume Two, Mann formed Manfred Mann's Earth Band, who are still active. In the 1990s, members of Manfred Mann, including Paul Jones, Tom McGuinness, Mike d'Abo, and Mike Hugg, reunited without their namesake as the Manfreds, and are touring under that name to this day.
