I'm walking down the highway
And I'm trying to get home
Oh lets hope I didn't wait too long
I left Louise at the window crying
Only hope she hasn't lowered her blind
Oh Louise, oh Louise, Louise please say you wait for me I met Louise in the month of MayI knew that she had words to say
Lord I couldn't hear them at the time
It was until after I'd gone that
The words she spoke they lingered on
I knew that I had left her with an apron high
Oh Louise, oh Louise Louise please say you wait for me I know she sitting in the darkness waiting
The streetlamp lights the tears she shedding
At a table there's a place for meShe'll make the table every night
With some wine and candle light
Even though she don't know where I'll be
Oh Louise, oh Louise, Louise please say you wait for me I don't know what gets into me
But I must wonder aimlessly
Though I know it's wrong at the timeMany's the highway I walked down
But nothing have I ever found
They always left me homeward bound
Oh Louise, oh Louise, Louise please say you wait for me I hope I soon will get the rideThat'll take me to Louise's sideI'll dry her tears and say that I was wrong
And hope that she forgives me then
And says that we can try again
I only hope she hasn't lowered her blind
Oh Louise, oh Louise, Louise please say you wait for me
