Richard Samet Friedman, meglio conosciuto come Kinky Friedman, è stato un cantautore, scrittore, giornalista e politico statunitense. Nato a New York nel 1944, Friedman ha trascorso la sua infanzia in Texas, dove ha sviluppato una passione per la musica country e il western. Ha iniziato la sua carriera musicale negli anni '60, pubblicando album di successo come "Sold Out" (1972) e "The Kinky Friedman Album" (1973). Le sue canzoni spesso mescolavano umorismo, satira politica e temi cowboy, diventando un cult classic nel mondo della musica americana. Oltre alla musica, Friedman ha scritto numerosi romanzi e saggi, tra cui il bestseller "Jesus Was a Liberal" (1980). Ha anche lavorato come giornalista per diverse pubblicazioni, scrivendo principalmente di politica e cultura popolare. Nel 2006, Friedman si è candidato per la carica di governatore del Texas, ottenendo un risultato sorprendente nonostante non fosse affiliato a nessun partito politico.
