Le groupe est composé des rappeurs les plus populaires du label discographique basé à La Nouvelle-Orléans, Cash Money Records. Les membres étaient Juvenile, Lil Wayne, B.G. et Turk (souvent appelés "Young Turk" ou "Lil Turk"). Les Hot Boys constituaient la majorité des artistes de Cash Money Records avec les autres Big Tymers. En 1997, ils ont sorti leur album de début, *Get It How U Live!*. En 1999, ils ont sorti *Guerrilla Warfare*, leur album le plus réussi à ce jour. Tout au long de l'année 2001, de nombreuses controverses ont entouré des problèmes juridiques avec Lil Wayne.
