The British indie-rock band Kooks were formed in 2004 by guitarist Luke Pritchard and bassist Max Rafferty, joined by drummer Paul Garred and guitarist Hugh Harris. They earned a contract with Virgin Records on the basis of their debut EP. Their first long-player for the label, Inside In/Inside Out, was a huge hit for the band, eventually going triple-platinum.
